Travel information

From the airport to Madrid center

Madrid Airport (Madrid Barajas) is located 12 km (8 miles) northeast of Madrid.

by underground

The cheapest way (2 €) to get into Madrid City Center or to the conference is by underground (METRO). The only available line at the Airport is LINE 8. Please, have a look to the Madrid Underground Map ([flash] [pdf])

Note that, depending on your flight terminal, you will arrive to Aeropuerto T1 T2 T3 (Terminals 1,2,3) or Aeropuerto T4 (Terminal 4) metro stations. Remember this for your return travel. Also allow for 1€ cash to be paid at the airport if you traveled with an std. ticket.

the institute is located in Serrano 113 and the nearest underground stations are Nuevos Ministerios and Republica Argentina. Nuevos ministerios is easier if you come from the airport, because you don't have to change to the line 6.

by taxi

Of course, there are plenty of Taxis to get to Madrid city center. This may cost around 20 to 30 euro depending where you go, and you can get them from any Terminal.

Fares in Madrid are slightly complex: there are special surcharges if you go to the airport, like a surcharge for the bags and for entering or leaving the airport. this amount to 5€. Ask for the written table of tariffs and charges (suplementos) (shown on small stickers on rear windows, compulsory by law) before paying if you think it's too expensive. A normal ride to/from the airport with luggage should be about 30€.
