Elyès Jouini works at the interface of mathematics, economics and finance. His research interests focus on financial economics, and in particular on transaction costs, heterogeneity of beliefs, aggregation, long-term risk and term structure of interest rates.

After initial work on general equilibrium theory, he became interested in modelling financial markets by incorporating economic and financial dimensions as well as dimensions from other disciplines such as psychology and sociology.
